Long-time Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Muphy
to be inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame

Retired Green Bay Packers CEO Mark Murphy, who led the beloved NFL team to nearly two decades of success on and off the field, will be among the class of inductees for the 76th anniversary induction of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame presented by Network Health on July 8.

The much-anticipated induction ceremony will be held at the Marcus Performing Arts Center in downtown Milwaukee, with a pre-event reception beginning at 5 p.m. The inductees will be honored at an awards ceremony beginning at 7 pm in Uihlein Hall.

The Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame, founded in 1951, was created to preserve the legacy and history of sports and athletic achievements in the state. Past inductees include Vince Lombardi, Hank Aaron, Donald Driver, Bob Uecker, Barry Alvarez, Brett Favre, Jordy Nelson, Oscar Robertson, Al McGuire, Bonnie Blair and Ernie Johnson, Jr.

Murphy retired in July 2025 as president and CEO of the Green Bay Packers after 17 years of leading the storied National Football League team.

During his tenure, the Packers were highly successful on the field, winning Super Bowl XLV in 2011, making the playoffs eight straight seasons from 2009 to 2016, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers winning four Most Valuable Player Awards.

Off the field, Murphy oversaw two separate stock sales in 2011 and 2021 that funded two renovations of Lambeau Field. He also led the effort to purchase land adjacent to Lambeau Field and redevelop it into the Titletown District, a mixed-use development that supports tourism and provides year-around activities to local residents.

Prior to joining the Packers, he served a combined 16 years as director of athletics at Northwestern University (2003-07) and Colgate University (1992-2003). He enjoyed an eight-year NFL playing career with the Washington Redskins and served as co-captain from 1980-84, including the Super Bowl title team of 1982. He earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 1983 after leading the NFL with nine interceptions.

"We are excited to celebrate Mark Murphy for his impact both on the football field and in the community,” said Brian Lammi, Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame co-owner. “His leadership in the development of Titletown and the land around Lambeau Field has led to the area being a year-round tourism destination and positively impacted both the team and the region. We look forward to honoring him as part of our 76th anniversary.”

Murphy is believed to be the only person to earn a Super Bowl ring as a player and as a team's chief executive.

“I’m extremely humbled and honored to be inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame.  The Packers are a special and unique organization, the best in all of professional sports. It was truly an honor to work for the Packers. The Packers employees are amazing and view themselves as true stewards of the organization. We always strived to leave the organization better than we found it. Our fans are the best in all of professional sports and make the atmosphere in Lambeau Field electric."

"They are also the best owners in the NFL.  I loved interacting with Packers fans, especially on our annual Tailgate Tour.  I’m very proud of all that we accomplished during my tenure, both on and off the field, during my 17-year tenure.”

The remaining inductees for the 76th anniversary of the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame will be announced over the next several weeks.
