Inducted in 2017
Ron Dayne is one of the most dominant and celebrated players in the history of college football, best known for redefining the running back position at the University of Wisconsin. A native of Irvington, New Jersey, Dayne arrived in Madison as a highly touted recruit and quickly became the centerpiece of the Badgers’ offense. From 1996 to 1999, he powered Wisconsin to unprecedented success, combining size, speed, and durability to overwhelm defenses and elevate the program to national prominence.
During his collegiate career, Dayne shattered NCAA and Big Ten rushing records, finishing with 7,125 career rushing yards and earning the 1999 Heisman Trophy as college football’s most outstanding player. He was a two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American, leading the Badgers to three Rose Bowl appearances and victories in the 1999 and 2000 Rose Bowls. His bruising running style and ability to perform on the biggest stages made him one of the most feared and respected players of his era.
Beyond the record books, Ron Dayne’s legacy is defined by his lasting impact on Wisconsin football and the pride he brought to the state. He went on to play in the NFL after being selected in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft, but his greatest influence remains his transformative role in establishing Wisconsin as a powerhouse program.
